We now have an Infrared Sauna!!

Come sweat with us! To ring in the new year, we are introducing new services at Highlands Health and Wellness, a Center for Functional Medicine.  One service we are excited to introduce is our brand new Far Infrared Sauna!  Infrared saunas are a type of sauna that uses heat and light to detoxify the body.  They emit infrared light waves that create heat in the body causing you to sweat and release stored toxins.

Some noted benefits of infrared sauna are:

  1. Detoxification
Detoxification is much needed in our toxic world.   Sweating is one way to rid our bodies of toxins, making it a crucial part of detoxification. When compared to traditional Swedish saunas, infrared saunas allow you to eliminate about seven times more toxins.
  2. Relaxation
Infrared sauna therapy promotes relaxation by helping to balance your body’s level of cortisol, your body’s primary stress hormone. The heat generated by the sauna will also help to relax muscles and relieve tension throughout the body, allowing you to relax and de-stress.
  3. Pain Relief
Infrared saunas can relieve pain and inflammation by increasing circulation and relaxing your muscles.
  4. Weight Loss
The heat generated by an infrared sauna will cause your core temperature to increase, simulating the heat created by exercise. When your body has to work harder to lower your core temperature or keep up with an increased heart rate, your body will burn more calories, resulting in weight loss.  Estimated caloric burn in a 30 minute infrared sauna session can be up to 600 calories!
  5. Improved Circulation
As the heat from infrared saunas raise your core body temperature, so does your circulation. Consistent infrared sauna sessions can stimulate blood flow, improve muscle recovery, and decrease pain and inflammation after intense exercise.
  6. Skin Purification
Infrared sauna technology can help purify your skin as toxins are eliminated from your pores. The accompanying rise in circulation can result in clearer, softer, and healthier-looking skin.
  7. 7. Lowers Side Effects of Diabetes
A 2010 study published in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine found that far-infrared sauna use is associated with improved quality of life in people with type II diabetes, even when compared to other lifestyle interventions. People with diabetes often suffer from complications such as pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, congestive heart failure and other heart problems, but sauna treatment seems to improve pain threshold and contribute to overall well-being.

We recommend staring in short intervals and building your way up to 20 minute sessions.  Start today by booking your free introductory session! Follow up sessions will be discounted for current members of HHW.  Please review the short video prior to coming in for your session as it contains important information and key points about the use of the sauna.
